“Vassilis Dimitriou is well aware of the course and schools of Greek singing and thus he can express his melodic quests in different ways, using the form of the anonymous traditional song or the ‘roads’ of rebetiko or the style of Hatzidakis. The Greek tradition inspires him to write melodies for his homeland, but his classical studies enable him to work on harmonic accompaniment and mixtures of soundscapes. Dimitriou manages to express with notes the purity of the white of the islands, the tenderness and variety of the flowers of the countryside, the nostalgia of the blue of the sea”.

Η κορύφωση της τέχνης ενός μεγάλου δημιουργού, που διαμόρφωσε τη μελωδικότητά του αντλώντας από τη δημοτική παράδοση, το ρεμπέτικο τραγούδι, και το χατζιδακικό σύμπαν. Όσο για τη σύνδεση με το καλοκαίρι; Όπως διαβάζουμε στον εξαιρετικό ορχηστρικό δίσκο του 1980, «Ο Δημητρίου κατορθώνει να εκφράσει με νότες την αγνότητα του λευκού των νησιών, την τρυφερότητα και ποικιλία των ανθών της υπαίθρου, τη νοσταλγία του γαλάζιου της θάλασσας».
