Greek Music Express: Music for Aristophanes – Mikroutsikos, Kraounakis, Aristophanes | 04 Jan 2024

The Birds is a comedy by the Ancient Greek playwright Aristophanes. It has been acclaimed by modern critics as a perfectly realized fantasy remarkable for its mimicry of birds and for the liveliness of its songs. Unlike the author’s other early plays, it includes no direct mention of the Peloponnesian War and there are few references to Athenian politics. Manos Hadjidakis provided one of the greatest moments of Greek music with his pioneering approach to The Birds in the late 1950s, while Dimitris Papadimitriou added his own refreshing perspective at the end of the 1990s.
