Today, we shall be listening to a very powerful live recording of a concert of Dionysis Savvopoulos titled Savvorama. Savvopoulos, one of the few “revolutionaries” of the Greek music scene, gave a series of concerts in December 2000 at the Athens Concert Hall. Savvorama is a panorama of Savvopoulos songs, with the participation of colleagues of his, like Domna Samiou, Nikos Papazoglou, Sakis Boulas, Alkinoos Ioannidis, Melina Kana and Melina Tanagri. The renowned “Camerata – Orchestra of Friends of Music” also participates, together with the choir “Fons Musicalis”.
Liesbeth List was a Dutch singer who became very popular during the 1960s and 1970s. In 1966 Mikis Theodorakis met her in the Netherlands, and he was impressed by her voice. In 1967 they released an album titled: ‘Liebeth List sings Theodorakis’. The first part of the album contains the Mauthausen cycle, translated in Dutch, of which the text was written by the Greek poet and playwright Iakovos Kambanellis, who was imprisoned by the nazi’s in the Mauthausen concentration camp. The second part contains songs with texts of the Irish Republican poet Brendan Behan about the struggle against the oppression of Ireland by Great Britain. When the album was released in the Netherlands, Theodorakis was imprisoned by the fascist regime of the colonels that had in the meantime taken power in Greece.
