Greek Music Express: Celebrating women in song: Korina Legaki | 06 May 2024

Korina Legaki is a profoundly cosmopolitan figure of Greek singing, with origins from Crete and from Sweden, and with a repertoire that includes not only Greek songs but also covers of foreign ones. Today, we are listening to songs from Legaki’s last three albums – Mosaic, New World, and Sequence – while admiring her ability to reinvent her expressive means. “My father is Greek and my mother is Swedish. But I was born and raised in Greece, so my basic education is Greek and of course I feel Greek. My Swedish self reminds me of the fact that there are cultures and organized states with provisions and respect for the common space, i.e. the society”.
