The President of the Hellenic Maritime Museum, Mrs. Anastasia Anagnostopoulou-Paloumpi speaks to “FAIR WINDS AND FOLLOWING SEAS” and VOICE OF GREECE.
She talks to us about the activities and history of the Hellenic Maritime Museum, as well as about the major exhibition it organizes entitled “Konstantinos Volanakis – The painter of the sea returns to Piraeus”.
The public will have the opportunity to admire important historical compositions of the famous Greek painter, such as “The naval battle of Salamis, 1882”, from the collection of the Hellenic Navy Headquarters, “The Exodus of Areos, 1894” and “The arrival of Princess Sofia in Faliro 1889-1890” from the collection of Evangelos and Katingo Angelakou, as well as the emblematic work “The port of Piraeus from the royal pier, 1886”, from the collection of the Municipality of Piraeus. The cycle of visual historical narratives is complemented by the two magnificent oil paintings by Konstantinos Volanakis from the permanent collection of the Hellenic Maritime Museum, which depict naval events of the Revolution of 1821: “The burning of the Turkish Warship in Eressos ” and “The Battle of Navarino”, mentions Ms Anagnostopoulou-Paloumpi in our discussion.
