Prior to his work for Alexander film, Vangelis was already famous for his scores to Chariots of Fire, Blade Runner and Conquest of Paradise. He was directly approached by Oliver Stone. “I tried to remember how it was to live at the time, to be there. At the same time, I must speak the music language which is understandable today, because we’re addressing thousands, millions in the audience” said Vangelis. Mythodea — Music for the NASA Mission: 2001 Mars Odyssey is a choral symphony by the renowned Greek electronic composer. It premiered as a single concert in Athens, Greece, in 1993 but a recording was only released in 2001 by Vangelis’ then new record label Sony Classical, which also set up the NASA connection. For the 2001 version of Mythodea, Vangelis expanded and reorchestrated the original composition.
