Singer-songwriters are a thing of the 1980s – a trend that later developed further and flourished in the following decade. But what is a singer-songwriter? Basically, they are artists who undertake all the stages of song creation, writing the lyrics and the melodies and performing the songs themselves, usually while playing their favourite music instrument. Singing-songwriting is the art of the one individual, pretty much along the lines set by the one and only Bob Dylan. The Greek Bob Dylan was, of course, Dionysis Savvopoulos who excelled in the 1970s. Singers-songwriters of the 1980s, such as Haris & Panos Katsimihas, Afroditi Manou and Vangelis Germanos, should be regarded as his artistic offsprings.
