This is the last day of our week-long tribute to sailors and to songs about sailors, those heroes of seafaring who keep alive not only Greek shipping but also our lifestyle, consumption and the fundamentals of our societies. It is, of course, not surprising that there are enough songs with seamanship-related themes to fill an entire week; I can tell you for sure that we could be listening to such songs for weeks or even months. There are endless creations dedicated to seamen simply because the connection between the country and them is endless too. Today’s menu includes rebetiko legends such as Babis Goles and Prodromos Tsaousakis, folk goddesses such as Doukissa and Glykeria, and island song vocalists such as Giota Vei and Aimilia Hatzidaki.
