This week here at GME is dedicated to the girls of Greek song, all these young music artists who have been leaving an important footprint on our contemporary music landscape. Today, we will be tasting the coexistence of dynamism and sensitivity in two gifted singers-songwriters: Pavlina Voulgaraki & Maro Markellou. Pavlina recalls: “I don’t remember myself wishing to get involved with music. I wasn’t in the school choir, I didn’t play an instrument as a kid, it wasn’t in the back of my mind. This was brought to me quite by accident in my everyday life, one day, and I followed it”.
As for Maro, her favourite toy as a child was a plastic tape recorder with a microphone. In high school she started classical guitar lessons; the first songs she learned to play were quite sloppy but her initial engagement with music was a positive shock for her.
