Today, we will be revisiting the live recordings of a globally renowned Greek singer while exploring the repertoire of another, lesser known but highly talented vocalist. Both have their birthday today, October 17. “Whenever I see Greek people abroad, there is emotion, a thirst for Greek music. And now that there are many young Greeks who left Greece to go abroad, the reactions are even more enthusiastic” says Eleftheria. Today, we shall be focusing on songs of hers recorded live, found on albums such as “Ektos Programmatos” and “Live from Theatro Vrahon”.
Despina Olympiou is a Greek-Cypriot singer, famous in her homeland as well as in Greece. She represented Cyprus in the 2013 Eurovision Song Contest in Malmö, Sweden. Olympiou was born and raised in Limassol and moved to London where she attended the Trinity College of Londοn and studied piano and music theory. Today’s track list of ours includes songs from her first studio album, “The good morning of your eyes”, as well as from the “From Tilos to Thrace” live recording shared with Pantelis Thalassinos.
