In the Greek discography, the arrangements of foreign songs with Greek lyrics have been a brilliant success story, especially in the second half of the ’70s, when there was a need for expression beyond the established folk, political, Hatzidakis and Theodorakis songs that were very popular at the time. Thanks to those arrangements, the light folk or sentimental song emerged and became a trend, a different kind of music. Adaptations, of course, continued afterwards and culminated in the 80s. Now, if you open the dictionary under the entry “light folk song”, it will definitely have the photo of Philippos Nikolaou! Nikolaou was the one who essentially started the wave of covers of foreign “light Euro” songs in the early 70s, a wave that was to be strengthened by the voice of Themis Adamantidis.
