Christmas on Voice of Greece with Greeks Around the World | 24 – 26 Dec. 2024

Voice of Greece, ERT’s global radio, celebrates Christmas with Greeks of the diaspora, seafarers sailing the oceans, carols, and special festive broadcasts.

On Christmas Eve, Tuesday, December 24, elementary and middle school students from various parts of Greece join the festive program “Fair Winds and Following Seas”. They will sing carols and share wishes for our sailors (8:00 AM Athens time). Traditional carols from across Greece—ranging from Kefalonia to Kos and Epirus to Ikaria—will also feature in the English-language music show “Greek Music Express” (2:00 PM Athens time).

On Christmas Day, Wednesday, December 25, and Thursday, December 26, active and retired seafarers will join “Fair Winds and Following Seas” to share memories of Christmases spent at sea (10:00 AM Athens time).

The diaspora program “Our Global Voice” will take listeners on a journey around the world, featuring interviews with compatriots from various corners of the globe on Christmas Day (6:00 PM Athens time) and again on Thursday, December 26 (11:00 AM Athens time).

The music group “Horostalites” will appear on the show “Ariadne’s Thread” on Christmas Day, bringing traditional melodies from across Greece (11:00 AM Athens time).

Actors Lefteris Eleftheriadis and Olga Mourgela will bring Christmas to life through texts and poems by Papadiamantis, Kontoglou, Palamas, and other great Greek writers and poets in the program “Journeys Basking in Greek Light” on Thursday, December 26 (5:00 PM Athens time).

As part of the “Further Listening” concert series, two exceptional musical evenings from the Greek Radio archive will be broadcast. On Christmas Day, enjoy a concert by Loukianos Kilaidonis featuring Iro Saia and Dionysis Savvopoulos. On Thursday, December 26, a special rhythm and blues performance by the historic Thessaloniki band “Blues Wire” will air (9:00 PM Athens time).
