On Sunday, February 16, 2025, Our Town hosted Vasilis Skoulas.
The renowned lyra player and singer of the Cretan tradition, joining us in the studio, talked about his family roots, which played a significant role in his musical journey. He shared stories about his homeland, Anogeia, and the local people who inspire him and with whom he forms deep connections. He also paid tribute to his predecessors (Moutakis, Skordalos, Xylouris), who helped establish Crete as a cultural pillar of the Mediterranean.
Vasilis Skoulas discussed his collaborations in the recording industry, including composers and musicians, as well as his connection with younger generations, with whom he maintains an ongoing open dialogue. The conversation touched on humor, companionship, composure, and the challenges posed by the fast pace of modern life.
Joining him in the studio was the young musician and singer Eleni Tornesaki, a close collaborator of Vasilis Skoulas. The show highlighted his special relationship with the Greek diaspora, whom he meets in many cities worldwide, performing for them and maintaining a warm and lasting bond. His television appearances, including his role in Sasmos, as well as his participation in major cultural events, were also discussed.
