Today, we are exploring the contribution of Fotis Polymeris to the development of light song – the dominant style of music in Greece in the 1930s and 1940s. Polymeris, who passed away in 2013 at the age of 93, was one of the leading vocalists of his time and an equally talented songwriter who gave us exquisite creations. The sound of some of Polymeris’ songs is truly unique for the period they were originally performed, as the typical orchestra was often replaced by a small guitar ensemble. By the way, yesterday was the 105th anniversary of Polymeris’ birth; however, our tribute had to wait for one day as we had to celebrate Costas Makedonas and Orfeas Peridis, who also had their birthday yesterday!
