A tribute to the writer, critic, playwright, poet, and prose writer, Giannis Skarimpas.
In his handwritten biography, Giannis Skarimpas writes:
“I was born in 1893 in the village of Agia-Thymia in Parnassos – formerly part of the Municipality of Mionia. I attended elementary school in Itea of Salona. The Teachers’ School in Aigio and high school in Patras. Here (in Chalkida), when I came as a soldier (conscripted) in 1914, I got married (… out of love). Since then, I have almost never ‘moved’ from this city = Chalkida. I started a family (children, daughters-in-law, and grandchildren) and I still remain, writing Literature and History. But also Poetry and Theatre. Now, at over 84 years of age, I rest (almost alone) in my little house, living ‘forever-unlearned,’ awaiting my ‘final lesson,’ thanking that which we call God, ‘for the mountains and the forests I’ve seen…’ And for the truth of these above-mentioned things of mine, I sign, the humblest Giannis Skarimpas.”
