Retired Navy Captain Manthos Dimitriou shared his unique stories and experiences on Voice of Greece and the show “Fair Winds and Following Seas”.
He served aboard the legendary destroyer Themistoklis from 1973 to 1978, making him one of the few naval officers to have spent such an extended period on a single vessel.
“Themistoklis wasn’t just my second home—it was my first. I had truly become one with the crew,” captain Dimitriou recalls. He continues, “Ships have a soul and an aura. The destroyer Themistoklis always radiated a positive energy. We had the best crew, perfectly united, all striving for our ship to be the very best. There was always a noble spirit of friendly competition.”
