A tribute to the great Spanish poet and fighter. Federico Garcia Lorca fills our lives with the vibrant flowers of his poetry and his struggle against fascism. It was those who could not bear his presence, his verses, his thunderous words drawn from the depths of the soul… who led him before the firing squad on an August day in 1936.
“They achieved a great victory,” Franco’s falangists boasted triumphantly — they had silenced him, they believed. But the true victory belongs to the people, who, decades later, continue to cherish the immense legacy of this magnificent, globally revered figure.
On that morning of 19 August, 91 years ago, Lorca crossed into eternity.
Listen to the tribute by Nikolas Angelidis and the program “Time in Greece”, featuring songs written for Lorca and poetry of his that has been set to music.
