Captain Michalis Karpathakis first set sail on 20 April 1964 aboard the small freighter Angelis Sigma, travelling from Heraklion to Thessaloniki. With 36 years and 7 months of service at sea, he shares memories of his seafaring life — and stories from his village, Vianos, in southern Heraklion.
His latest book, The Sea Wolves of the Aegean, was recently published. On today’s show, he recounts the gripping story of how the crew of the M/V Argo-Hellas (owned by Carras) survived a fierce storm in 1968.
