A recent study by the Foundation for Economic & Industrial Research (IOBE), commissioned by the Hellenic Shortsea Shipowners Association (EENMA), shows that the aging shortsea fleet, declining capacity, and the new demands of the green transition pose significant challenges for the sector’s sustainability.
“Our fleet from 2004 to 2025: the number of cargo vessels under 5,000 GT fell by 32%, and tankers by 42%,” noted Charalampos Simantonis, President of EENMA, in his opening remarks.
