Dep. Minister of Shipping, Stefanos Gkikas, on “Fair Winds and Following Seas” | 25 Sept. 2025

The Deputy Minister of Shipping and Island Policy, Mr. Stefanos Gikas, spoke on the program “Fair Winds and Following Seas” and Voice of Greece.

After expressing his condolences to the family of the 20-year-old seafarer who tragically lost his life in the incident involving the M/V Blue Star Chios, he stated that all necessary procedures will be followed to ensure the case is thoroughly investigated.

At the same time, Mr. Gikas referred to today’s celebration of World Maritime Day, emphasizing the importance of maintaining and strengthening maritime education. He also underlined the need to attract as many young people as possible to the Maritime Academies and the maritime sector.

“We are a global maritime power and we must remain number one. We need capable and qualified personnel to staff our commercial fleet. A new bill on maritime education will soon be submitted to Parliament. At the same time, we must offer incentives and opportunities to young people for careers in the blue economy,” the Deputy Minister said, among other things, while wishing all seafarers and people in the maritime industry a Happy World Maritime Day and… fair winds and following seas!
