Music remembers History on “Historical Walks” | 25 Oct. 2025, 13:00

Marking three important anniversaries — the Liberation of Athens, the 28th of October, and the 100th anniversary of the birth of Manos Hadjidakis — Voice of Greece’s program “Historical Walks”, hosted by Marilena Katsimi, embarks on a special radio journey where Music remembers History.

Through the lesser-known yet deeply moving work by Manos Hadjidakis, “Melissanthi”, we will walk through Athens in the days of Liberation; A vivid audio document of one of the most significant periods in modern Greek history, the broadcast seeks to shed light on why Greece commemorates the beginning and not the end of World War II.

Guest: Vangelis Karamanolakis, Professor of History at the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens, whose research focuses on the social and cultural history of modern Greece. Together, we explore how music can become memory, testimony, and national self-awareness. ]

Produced and presented by Marilena Katsimi

Broadcast: Saturday, 25 October 2025, 13:00–14:00 (Athens time)
