The teacher and author Melina Iliopoulou spoke on “Fair Winds & Following Seas” and Voice of Greece about her book “Liberty – The Ship of Freedom.”
“The Aegean Sea is a unique sea. Wherever you are, you want to dive in. It’s like a mother’s embrace – only there can you find peace,” she says, adding about Greek seafarers: “On their faces, you can read courage, freedom, calmness, strength, and their deep love for the sea and seamanship.”
“In this book, together with Maria Giassa, we describe the bond between little Yiannis and his grandfather, and their shared love for the sea and ships,” Iliopoulou explains. “Our aim,” she adds, “is to bridge two worlds – education and shipping – and to plant the seed for future seafarers who will one day engage with the magnificent world of Greek shipping.”
