Captain Michalis Karpathakis first set sail on 20 April 1964, aboard the freighter Angelis Sigma, travelling from Heraklion to Thessaloniki. Over the course of 36 years and 7 months at sea, he served on countless voyages — and shed tears as he descended the gangway of his final ship, the M/V Thallis, on 5 July 2005.
In this episode of “Fair Winds & Following Seas”, he recalls a shooting incident in the Cretan village of Vorizia, and reads an excerpt from his third book, “Sea Wolves of the Aegean”, recounting a true story from 1978, when he was second captain aboard the M/V Minos — a gripping tale involving firearms and life at sea.
