Professor Christina Dounia on Kostas Karyotakis | 03 Dec. 2025, 22:00

Emerita Professor of Modern Greek Literature at the University of Athens, Christina Dounia — author of the book «Το Όνειρο και το Πάθος» (Dream and Passion) is the guest on Wednesday, 03 December 2025, at 22:00 Athens time, on Voice of Greece’s program “Remarkable Personalities” with Stavroula Karali, in an episode dedicated to Kostas Karyotakis.

Professor Dounia, regarded as one of the foremost scholars of Kostas Karyotakis, reveals new findings about the poet’s suicide in Preveza, challenging long-established assumptions. According to her research, at the time of his death — beyond illness and an adverse transfer — the poet also appeared to be weighed down by a false accusation.

The Emerita Professor speaks about Karyotakis’ much-discussed relationship with Maria Polydouri, about Interwar-period poetry, and about Cavafy, Baudelaire, and Poe — three major figures who deeply influenced Karyotakis.

Produced and presented by Stavroula Karali
