The episode is dedicated to Maria Farantouri, the singer whom Mikis Theodorakis discovered in 1963 after hearing her perform one of his songs, immediately proposing that she become the voice of his work. At Theodorakis’ side, Farantouri introduced Greek audiences to musical settings of major poets such as Giorgos Seferis and Odysseas Elytis. She went on to become a monumental figure in contemporary music, earning international praise from the foreign press, described as “the people’s Maria Callas” by The Daily Telegraph, “the Joan Baez of the Mediterranean” by Le Monde, and, in the words of The Guardian, “a gift from the Gods of Olympus.”
