On Sunday, 15 March 2026, from 12:00 to 14:00 Athens time, the Voice of Greece program “Our Town” with Themis Rodamitis presents a tribute to the great laïko composer and lyricist Giorgos Mitsakis.
The creator of many major hits, Mitsakis carved out a significant path during the transition from rebetiko to laïko song. His works were performed by some of the most important singers of the era, including Prodromos Tsaousakis, Stella Haskil, Grigoris Bithikotsis, Stelios Kazantzidis, Stratos Dionysiou, and others.
He was a leading figure both on the popular music stages and in the recording industry, collaborating creatively with many of the foremost composers of Greek laïko song and playing a key role in bringing this music to audiences across all social classes.
The program will feature many beloved hits by Giorgos Mitsakis, along with short stories from his artistic journey, his social life, and his relationships with fellow artists and the venues where his music flourished.
An episode where song takes center stage, while also attempting to capture what Giorgos Mitsakis has left us today—as a composer, lyricist, performer, and as a formative figure in one of Greece’s most important cultural expressions: the laïko song tradition.
