On Monday, 27 April 2026, from 22:00 to 23:00 (Athens time), the Voice of Greece program “Our Town”, hosted by Themis Rodamitis, presents a special tribute to Johan Cruyff—a legendary figure who redefined football both on and off the pitch. Remembered as the “philosopher of football,” Cruyff championed a vision of the game rooted in harmony, intelligence, and a dynamic balance between structure and freedom.
Joining the program in the studio is journalist Giannis Georgakis, who has closely studied Cruyff’s legacy and authored a book dedicated to his life and ideas. He will shed light on the Dutch forward’s enduring influence, his distinctive way of seeing football as a simple yet deeply creative sport, and the principles that shaped his iconic approach. As Cruyff himself once said: “Football I learned in the street. My spirit and my entire coaching philosophy are based on street technique, adapted to today’s conditions.”
A singular football mind, Cruyff infused the sport with a new sense of purpose and aesthetics, transforming not only how the game is played but also how it is understood. As Thomas Tuchel aptly notes: “It’s not only about winning, but the way you achieve it.”
