Panos Zachariadis, Technical Director of Atlantic Bulk Carriers Management and a member of the Union of Greek Shipowners, BIMCO’s Maritime Safety & Security Committee, INTERCARGO’s Executive Committee, and the Board of the Hellenic Chamber of Shipping, joins Voice of Greece and “Fair Winds and Following Seas.”
Following his visit to Posidonia 2026, Zachariadis visited the Voice of Greece studio to discuss the future of shipping and the technological changes reshaping the industry.
Among other things, he emphasized the importance of looking ahead and preparing for the next generation of maritime technologies. Referring to nuclear energy, he noted that he had been advocating for its potential in shipping six or seven years ago, when many dismissed the idea. He argued that today’s fourth- and fifth-generation nuclear technologies bear little resemblance to earlier generations associated with accidents such as Fukushima or Chernobyl.
He also expressed reservations about the current regulatory framework governing green fuels, arguing that the industry continues to face significant challenges and that existing regulations have so far resulted primarily in increased financial penalties rather than practical solutions.
