What do we inherit from those who left home before us — a language, a memory, a sense of belonging… or perhaps simply a song?
This Sunday, Infinitely Curious travels from Greece to Sydney and back again through the stories and music of Greek migration.
Joining Katerina Batzaki from Sydney is Greek-Australian theatre-maker and filmmaker Alex Lykos, creator of Alex & Eve, Disconnect Me and the new musical theatre production I ZOI ETHO TELIONI — Life Ends Here.
Through the story of three generations, Lykos talks about his parents’ migration to Australia, grief and family, growing up between two cultures, and the old Greek songs that became an emotional bridge to a homeland thousands of kilometres away.
What happens when the migrant generation disappears? What do their children and grandchildren keep — and what risks being lost?
And could I ZOI ETHO TELIONI, born on a Sydney stage, now make the journey back to Athens and Thessaloniki?
