“Moving Worlds” – Kimolos: A small island, a vast world | 12 Oct. 2026

What does it mean to love a place? To return to it, to create something there, or to strive to give future generations a reason to stay?

On Monday, 12 October, Voice of Greece’s “Moving Worlds” traveled to Kimolos, seeking not only the beauty of this Cycladic island, but above all its soul and its people.

Flora Ramfou, an entrepreneur with family roots in Kimolos and Aegina, spoke about her memories of and ties to the two places she calls home, her journey as a woman in business, carrying on her family’s tradition, and the need for sustainable tourism development that respects the identity of small islands.

Dimitris Kakyris, president of the Kimolos Municipal Council and an educator, turned his attention to the daily lives of year-round residents, the challenges of island life, education, and young people’s prospects. Central to the discussion were children’s right to imagine a future in their hometown and the need to keep Kimolos alive through the winter months.

Two different paths, one shared question: How do we protect what we love while allowing it to evolve?

Because an island is more than a place worth visiting. It is a place where people deserve the opportunity to live.
