Gifted singer-songwriter Athina Kontodima joined us on the airwaves of Voice of Greece for a thoughtful, evocative conversation filled with emotion, as the spare beauty of Epirus’s musical tradition met the modern electric pulse of Athens.
We listened to her music and discussed her early days performing English-language soul and funk with the Soulmates, her turn toward Greek song, and the personal expression she found in songwriting through “Defteri Foni” (“Second Voice”).
We also explored her collaborations with Giannis Kotsiras, Pyx Lax, Pantelis Kyrama rgios, TAF LATHOS, Antonis Zacharakis, and Dimitris Karras; her experiences performing abroad in Sweden, Norway, and Malta; and her connection with the Greek diaspora.
Throughout the conversation, she spoke of her belief that, in art, “nothing is handed to you”—and that authentic music is built through hard work and dedication.
