As part of our series spotlighting some of the freshest, most evocative and compelling voices on Greece’s alternative music scene, we welcomed a distinctive songwriter and performer to the studio: Amária (Amaria Katsanevaki).
With a degree in Marketing from the Athens University of Economics and Business and a master’s in Music Business from London, Amária has experienced the music industry from the inside—and made a conscious choice to preserve a romantic, authentic relationship with her art. From her work with the alternative electronic/pop group Ānemi to her solo project, she blends electronic music with Greek lyrics, shaping a contemporary Greek alternative pop sound that explores mental health, inner conflict, and personal liberation.
She spoke about taking up the piano at the age of six, her collaboration with producer Chop Juggler, her hits “Giati me rotas” (“Why Are You Asking Me?”) and “Kane pos den vlepeis ta fota” (“Pretend You Don’t See the Lights”), and her appearance at ILION Plus alongside Elena Leoni, Marina Satti, Billie Kark, and Erasmia Markidi.
