Infinitely Curious: Elections May 2023 | 21.05.2023

Analysts believe that 440,000 young people aged 17 to 21 eligible to vote could perhaps swing the election, tightly contested by the ruling New Democracy and the leftist Syriza opposition.Their decision at the ballot box will be particularly important this time around, as this is the first Greek election to employ proportional representation. This new voting system could provide the smallest parties with an opportunity to take part in forming a coalition government. On Sunday, May 21,  the digital radio station of the Voice of Greece aired a special election edition with Katerina Batzaki.Political analyst, editor and co-founder of political analysis website Macro Polis Nick Malkoutzis and Independent journalist and Al- Jazeera correspondent for South East Europe John Psaropoulos spoke among other things about coalitions , the importance of young voters, the new electoral system as well as the role smaller parties would play in swinging the overall outcome of the elections.
