At 10 p.m. on the last Friday of May, another musical encounter with artists from Greece’s jazz scene—past, present, and future—took place at Studio B of ERA and the Hellenic Broadcasting Corporation’s Music Ensembles. Hosted by Pantazis Tsaras for the show “Greek Jazz Players”, the spotlight was on the trio of the multifaceted pianist, composer, and improviser Stathis Anninos, joined by the gifted Kostis Patsiotis on double bass and Giorgos Kosteletos on drums.
Together, they performed unreleased and selected pieces from Anninos’ solo album Anthology [2021], along with fresh interpretations of beloved musical themes drawn from a wide range of genres.
The trio’s music is a meeting point of diverse sonic worlds, blending influences from classical music, European jazz traditions, free improvisation, and Mediterranean soundscapes. These elements come together in a solid and expressive sound—rich in contrasts, and often imbued with a cinematic quality.
