On Friday, January 26th at 22:00 pm, Pantazis Tsaras will host in Studio B of the ERA of Music Ensembles, the Trio of saxophonist and composer Melina Paxinos, consisting of pianist and composer Dimitris Verdinoglou and bassist Grigoris Theodoridis.
Melina Paxinos’s compositions, who belongs to the new scene of Greek jazz musicians, combine the modern sound of jazz with various Greek musical elements. Paxinou, raised in Hamburg, has always been inspired by Greek traditional music and Rebetiko, among others. The well-known “Ta matoklada sou lampoun” by Markos Vamvakaris was covered in her album “Time” [2022]; she performs this song together with popular trumpeter and composer Andreas Polyzogopoulos.
In the live show, they interpret, among others, this composition by Vamvakaris, “Anna Maria” by Wayne Shorter and her own composition “Athens I” from the album “Athens” (2019), with recordings in which participated the well-known lyre player and philhellene Ross Daly.
