A ”Time in Greece” tribute to ‘the children of Piraeus’ | 07 Feb.2024

The children of Piraeus… Their story… From black dirty and frayed clothes, to survival struggles and recognition… They are the gavriades of Piraeus inspired by Petit Gervais character, the hero of Victor Hugo in “Les Miserables”, who in Greek was translated as “Gavrias”.

How did those guttersnipes arrive at the port… Where did they hung out… What odd jobs they did… When, in what period of time was their presence felt… Which organizations and individuals tried to help the situation with soup kitchens, clothing, night classes and games…

A unique tribute that takes place for the first time on radio, to the “Voice of Greece”, about the urchins (gavriades) of Piraeus.
