Mike Daniel: A remarkable figure on the U.S. music scene | 08 Oct. 2026

A remarkable man from beautiful Morfi, a mountain village in the municipality of Voio, Kozani, in Western Macedonia. Michalis Daniil arrived in the United States in 1956 with his lifelong partner, Eleni, in search of a better life. Through his music and orchestra, he left an enduring mark on New York and the wider U.S. East Coast over several decades. A musician for 77 years, with a stature bordering on the legendary, he entertained generations of Greek Americans with his bouzouki, accordion, and wonderful voice for more than half a century, without pause.

Mike Daniel worked with legends of both the Greek and American music scenes. He passed away at a ripe old age, with a smile on his lips, leaving behind a rich body of work and people he loved—and who loved him deeply and will never forget him. His legacy is immense, both as a musician and as a man whose powerful voice and distinctive presence left a lasting impression on the Greek American community.
