The radio series “Unguarded Passage” on Voice of Greece presents a radio documentary commemorating the anniversary of the Polytechnic Uprising, shedding light on the untold story of the radio stations operated by protesting students in Athens and Thessaloniki. It also explores how, during the early years of the Metapolitefsi (post-dictatorship period), students once again used the airwaves to prevent the passing of an undemocratic law.
For the first time, two oral testimonies reveal people and events, explaining how the students’ message of democracy reached Greek citizens in November 1973 through their gripping broadcasts from makeshift radio stations, unaware of the enormous impact their broadcasts would have.
As in other critical moments, radio played a pivotal role in the Polytechnic Uprising, a role thoroughly explored in this radio documentary from the “Unguarded Passage” series.
