The program “Unguarded Passage” with ERT journalist Thomas Sideris, on Friday 13 June at 13:00 Athens time, presents a radio documentary focusing on the historic March to Gaza, the tragic case of the Mavi Marmara flotilla, and the 48-kilometer march to the Rafah Crossing in June 2025.
The story begins on the night of 31 May 2010, when the Turkish ship Mavi Marmara, carrying humanitarian aid to Gaza, came under a deadly attack by Israeli special forces in international waters, resulting in the deaths of 10 civilians and dozens of injuries. The incident shocked the international community and marked the beginning of a new era of activism calling for the lifting of the Gaza Strip blockade.
The broadcast then follows the course of events up to 2025, when thousands of activists from 31 countries decided to walk 48 kilometers from Al-Arish, Egypt to the Rafah border crossing, demanding the opening of a humanitarian corridor to Gaza.
Joining the live studio at Voice of Greece will be Professor Giorgos Pleios, Director of the Laboratory of Social Research in Mass Media at the Department of Communication and Media Studies of the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens (NKUA), and member of the Coordination Committee of the NKUA’s Centre of Excellence for Asylum and Migration.
The program will also feature live links with political activists participating in the symbolic and historic March to Gaza.
