Recreating the sounds of ancient Greek music | 09 Feb. 2025, 11:00

Ancient Greek music isn’t lost- it’s been rediscovered, hiding in ancient texts and mathematical codes. The Greeks didn’t just listen to music-they believed it could heal, educate, and even shape society. And thanks to modern research, we can now hear the echoes of a world more than 2,000 years old.

Tune in this Sunday 09 February 2025 at 11:00 (Athens time) to “Infinitely Curious”, the English-language program of ERT and Voice of Greece, to celebrate International Greek Language Day and listen to two distinguished guests – Nikos Xanthoulis, a Greek composer, musician, and author, playing Ancient Greek texts on the lyre and talking about his research on reviving this lost music. Hear Professor of Classics at Oxford University, Dr. Armand D’Angour, a classical musician, and a leading expert in Ancient Greek music, poetry, and history speaking of the revival of Ancient Greek music and how familiar it may sound to us today.

Produced and presented by Katerina Batzaki
