“The Brutalist”: The real heroes behind the cinematic ones | 21 Feb. 2025, 13:00

Inspired by the Hollywood epic The Brutalist and its stunning 70mm cinematography by Laurie Crowley—utilizing the Vista method discovered by Paramount in 1954 and the 1.85:1 format—the radio documentary series Unguarded Passage brings to the airwaves of Voice of Greece a documentary that delves into the real heroes behind the cinematic protagonist.

A poignant story of post-war immigration to the United States, with the open wound of the Holocaust ever-present, and above all, an unstoppable drive for creation through architectural forms and the core principles of Brutalism, serve as the foundation and canvas for a cinematic narrative.

But what truly lies behind the myth? And, most importantly, who are the real people behind the cinematic hero László Tóth? This radio documentary explores the post-war world, the trauma of the Holocaust, and humanity’s inexhaustible creative ability to rebuild the world from its ruins.

The radio series “Afilachti Diavasi” honors International Women’s Day with a special episode dedicated to an exceptional woman, Maria Roussou, director of the Public Library of Lefkada. Her journey led her from East to West, as she moved from Samos to Lefkada in the early 1990s. Tireless, methodical, and above all, with an inexhaustible love for the library, she managed to turn a public institution into a landmark for the island of Aristotle Valaoritis and Angelos Sikelianos—an island where poetry has always met music and Italian culture is deeply woven into daily life. Maria Roussou laid the foundations to transform ... Read more
