Nikoletta Dioli meets Rebetiko on canvas… A different kind of exhibition, steeped in emotion, opens its doors on Monday, April 28, 2025. It is a tribute in paint to today’s rebetiko musicians — men and women who, with passion and soul, keep this timeless tradition alive.
“These are my Saints of Rebetiko, my noble ladies of Rebetiko,” Nikoleta Dioli says with disarming honesty.
“You’ll find them sitting in the chairs of humble neighborhood taverns, not on grand stages or in glossy magazine spreads.”
The program “Time in Greece” (“Ώρα Ελλάδας”) and host Nikos Angelidis attempt to capture that old, spirited world through the brushstrokes, colors, and inspired visions of Nikoletτa Dioli. She will join us live in the studio of Voice of Greece on the morning of the last Monday in April, accompanied by Stelios Papadopoulos and Giorgos Zorbas — two seasoned musicians with long, admired journeys in rebetiko song.
Together, we will listen to live performances of songs that inspired the exhibition and discover how the sound of the baglamas is transformed into images, bringing to life the lords and ladies of the rebetiko taverns.
