This week, “Unguarded Passage” presents a special radio journey dedicated to José “Pepe” Mujica — the man who redefined the role of Uruguay’s president as an everyday act of solidarity, humility, and resistance.
A former Tupamaros guerrilla, political prisoner for thirteen years, and a philosopher of action, Mujica governed with a deep social conscience. Elected president in 2010, he rejected the privileges of office, lived simply on his modest farm, and donated most of his salary to charitable causes.
Through original audio archives, testimonies, and selected excerpts from his speeches, the program traces the path of the man known as “the world’s poorest president” — and invites us to reflect on politics as a moral stance toward life and society.
