On the occasion of World Environment Day, celebrated annually on June 5th, the show “Historical Walks” focuses on the concept of biodiversity in Greece and worldwide on Saturday, June 7th, at 1:00 p.m.
The guest of the episode is Panagiotis Pafilis, Professor of Animal Diversity at the Department of Biology, National and Kapodistrian University of Athens.
In conversation with Marilena Katsimi, he explains what biodiversity is and why its protection is essential, having a profound impact on human life. Professor Pafilis also discusses major threats endangering the planet’s flora and fauna—such as ecosystem degradation, the climate crisis, pollution, and overexploitation—while offering hope by emphasizing the role of international and national agreements and political will.
