Seven poems each week — one Greek poem every day — travel through the airwaves of Voice of Greece, reaching the far corners of the earth, wherever Greek voices are heard.
The week of 14 July to 20 July 2025 is dedicated to the poet Gerasimos Tzivras.
Dr. Gerasimos Tzivras, a medical doctor specializing in general surgery, proctology, phlebology, and addiction medicine, was born in Argostoli, Kefalonia, and is a permanent resident of Germany. He serves on the board of the European Union Association / Herne Regional Committee in Germany, the Society of Greek Scientists of North Rhine-Westphalia (GREKA e.V.), and the Society of Greek Authors in Germany (GGAD e.V.). He is also a member of the Association of Christian Churches (ACK), the representative for Germany of the Hellenic-Cypriot Cultural Association (SPEK), a representative of the Panorama International Literature Festival, and a member of the Writers Capital International Foundation, as well as of the German scientific community.
In addition to his voluntary work in the medical field, he is deeply involved in poetry and music — including Byzantine music as an active cantor and choirmaster. Many of his poems, several of which have been set to music, are available as accessible eBooks. He has received awards in poetry competitions, and his poetic work — especially the musical settings — has been presented both in Greece and in Germany.
