Voice of Greece, ERT’s international radio station for Greeks around the world, continues its mission to promote, support, and showcase the Greek language and culture by reintroducing the special two-minute poetry segments “Poet of the Week”.
Each week is dedicated to a contemporary Greek poet, including voices from the Greek diaspora. The poets themselves curate and interpret their work for the radio, while their poems are accompanied by musical selections from acclaimed composers.
Seven poems each week—one Greek poem per day—travel across the airwaves of Voice of Greece, reaching every corner of the world where Greek voices are heard.
The week of 28 July to 03 August 2025 is dedicated to poet Stathis Gourgouris.
Stathis Gourgouris (https://stathisgourgouris.com/) is a poet, essayist, translator, and electronic music composer. He is Professor of Comparative Literature and Society at Columbia University. He has published eight books of philosophy and criticism in English, as well as four in Greek: Does Literature Think? (Nefeli, 2007), Dream Nation (Kritiki, 2010), Perhaps Mischief (Nissos, 2017), and The Worldly and the Global (Psifides, 2025). He has published five poetry collections, the most recent in Greek being Introduction to Physics (2005). He has received honors at the 4th International Poetry Festival in Sapanja and was a finalist in the 5th International Flash Fiction Competition organized by the Fundación César Egido Serrano and the Museo de la Palabra in Madrid (2019). Among other accolades, he has been awarded a Guggenheim Fellowship for his body of work (2023), the Lenfest Distinguished Faculty Award—Columbia University’s highest faculty distinction (2015)—and fellowships from the Templeton Foundation, Mellon Foundation, National Endowment for the Humanities, Wright-Ingraham Institute, and Fulbright. His poems have been translated into English, French, German, Italian, Spanish, Turkish, Arabic, Hebrew, Serbian, Japanese, and Hindi. He is also a regular contributor to international and Greek media, writing on political and literary issues.
