Romanos IV Diogenes and the secret of Proti, the first of the Princes’ Islands | 13 Nov. 2025

A school church in Constantinople. Sofia and Manolis, twins from Alimos, travel with their class to the homeland of their grandmother – a place they have heard so much about. On Proti, the smallest of the Princes’ Islands and once a place of exile for Byzantine emperors, a precious secret has been hidden for centuries.

Through vivid narration and on-site exploration of Pera, Fener, the Bosphorus and the Princes’ Islands, the older and more recent history of the Greeks of Constantinople comes to life before them. Together with their friends, the two siblings try to solve a riddle composed of three lines of four mysterious letters — and a forgotten oath of silence. The presence of two shadowy figures following their every move adds tension and urgency to their quest…

The writer Io Tsokona, author of Romanos IV Diogenes and the Secret of Proti, is hosted by Nikolas Angelidis on the programme “Time in Greece” on Voice of Greece.
