Voice of Greece, ERT’s international radio addressed to Greeks around the world, continues its series of podcasts— “Poet of the Week” — dedicated to the dissemination, support, and celebration of the Greek language and culture. Each week focuses on a contemporary Greek poet — including poets of the Diaspora — who personally select and recite their poems for radio broadcast. Each poem is accompanied by carefully chosen music, creating a bridge between verse and sound.
Seven poems per week — one poem each day — travel through the frequencies of Voice of Greece, reaching every corner of the world where Greek voices are heard.
The week 01-07 December 2025 is dedicated to poet Sonia Zacharatou.
Sonia Zacharatou has worked in newspapers, magazines, and public television, contributing to numerous social and cultural programs. Among them, «Οι Τέχνες είναι επτά» (The Arts Are Seven) was distinguished as one of the eleven best in Europe by the French Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the European Union, and was hosted for a period at the Centre Pompidou. For her social research, she received awards from the Hellenic National Committee of the United Nations and the Hellenic Red Cross. She has also presented her own radio shows on 98.4, ERA, and on the Greek-language program of Bavarian Radio.
From 2007 to 2017, she collaborated with BHMAgazino on a series of interview-based psychological portraits.
She has been involved in literature since her adolescence, and her early poems appear in anthologies of young poets. She writes novels, poetry, and theatre.
Her short story «Το πένθος της σελήνης» (The Moon’s Mourning) received an award in an international competition of the Association Cultural Hellenica Nostos in Argentina.
She has published 14 books.
Her work «Madre Dolorosa – Ο έρωτας» (Madre Dolorosa – Love) was presented as a staged reading in Athens and in other regions of Greece, performed by Karyofyllia Karabeti and directed by Dimitris Kantiotis. Under his direction as well, her play «Ο εχθρός μου» (My Enemy) was performed by Georgia Zoi and Vangelis Stratigakos at the Michael Cacoyannis Foundation.
In 2016, her play «Όνειρα με τη μαμά» (Dreams with Mother) was presented at the international festival «Αναλόγιο 2016» (Analogio 2016), directed by Enke Fezollari and performed by Panagiota Vlanti and Jenny Theona.
In 2023, again within the framework of the international Analogio Festival, her play «Νοσταλγία» (Nostalgia) was staged at the Stathmos Theatre and at the Theocharakis Foundation, starring Haris Symeonidou and directed by Eirini Tzavara.
