“Faraway Words” with Grigoris Chaliakopoulos | 05 Jan. 2026

Making the first on-air appearance of 2026 on Voice of Greece is writer and journalist Grigoris Chaliakopoulos, who for the past three and a half years has been working as editor-in-chief of the historic newspaper Alexandrian Courier in Alexandria. During the conversation, he speaks about Alexandria and the history of the Greek community, the activities of the Greek-Egyptians, and the needs of today’s small but vibrant community, noting poignantly that he now feels he has two homelands: Egypt and Greece.
He also discusses the children’s book series he has authored—published by Kaleidoscope Editions—focusing on the lives of historical figures not widely known to the general public. Among them are “The Journey of Fereydoun,” shortlisted for the Greek State Literary Award in 2013; “The Secret of Velissarios,” dedicated to the great 16th-century Greek painter of Naples; “The Painter with Three Homelands,” about Constantino Brumidi, who painted the U.S. Capitol in Washington; and his most recent book, “Through Markos’s Eyes,” devoted to the life and journey of Markos Kikivarakis.
