“The (Very Special) Chromosome 21” | 17 Jan. 2026, 17:00

“…he might not have done well at school, he might have struggled to speak clearly, to write and to read—but he never struggled, not even for a moment, to laugh with all his heart, to open his arms wide and gather everyone into his big embrace. He had a deeply developed sense of justice and solidarity for every living being he saw suffering, and, even when he was often unable to express himself in words, he could instantly sense acceptance or rejection from those around him…” (From the book’s back cover)

The program “Narratives – Stories and Fairy Tales for All Ages” presents, on Saturday 17 January 2026, from 17:00 to 18:00 on Voice of Greece, the narrated narration of the third book in the trilogy by Epi Michi Zeggou, titled “The (Very Special) Chromosome 21.” The book is published by the Kyknos Association (Parents & Friends of People with Down Syndrome of Thessaly).

The book’s warm and sensitive illustrations—offering a particularly clear and accessible visual approach to Down syndrome—are signed by illustrator and creator Theodosia Kotsika.

Let us talk about Down syndrome with both our younger and adult listeners, supporting the Association’s vital mission through the proceeds from the book’s sales. Each copy bears the authentic signature of the Association’s President, while a key shared goal of its members and supporters is the creation and completion of a model structure for independent living and self-management for children and adults with Down syndrome.

Through the story by Epi Michi Zeggou and the message of the Association’s President, Konstantinos Diamantos, young and adult listeners alike learn that:
“Down syndrome is NOT A DISEASE. It is simply a chromosomal variation that creates the need, through specialized support, for the abilities of children with Down syndrome to be brought to the forefront. In a society of culture and equal opportunities, the phrase WE ARE ALL DIFFERENT, WE ARE ALL EQUAL takes on particular meaning for children with Down syndrome and their future. This book is dedicated to Ioannis, Nikolas, Maria, Christina, and to all those wonderfully unique children born with Down syndrome, who came into the world to teach us LOVE.”

Produced and presented by Maria Karagiannaki Iona
Broadcast: Saturday, 17 January 2026, 17:00-18:00 (Athens time)
